A quick poll on a less-serious topic. Will you be watching Two and Half Men when it comes back, with Ashton Kutcher in a few weeks?
I won't. First of all, I don't blame Charlie Sheen alone for what happened--the Executive Producer, C. Lorre, did all he could to inflame Sheen and doesn't deserve my attention. Second, I don't like Ashton. I don't think he can act and I hate his politics (he's a bigtime "end of days" believer. Third, I don't like that they are killing off a character on what is supposed to be a funny sitcom. Finally, I think the premise--Ashton, an "Internet billionaire" buys the house and talks Alan and the kid into staying with him--creepy at best. What single man would want a single father and his teen son to live with him? Smacks of pedophilia almost.
Also, I find people's outrage at Sheen's off-screen antics amusing, if they also watch the show--his real life is just the character on the show writ large. If his real life behavior annoys you, why are you watching the same behavior on a TV show? The producers and advertisers were thrilled with throwing their money at a fictional out of control playboy then clutch their pearls when the star acts that way in real life?
Yeah, I know. It's a silly TV show, but it is one that has been quite newsworthy and is controversial, so weigh in...will you be watching? Like the premise that is bringing Ashton into the show?
My prediction--the show will have high ratings the first episode of the season as curious people tune in, then will quickly lose viewers and will be canceled mid-season, probably in January. Sad, as there are many great actors/characters on the show. Perhaps I will tune in if they give Berta her own show.
Me, I'll be watching the Sheen roast and not even TiVo-ing the first episode of Two and a Half Men this season. The show was Charlie Sheen, without him, the premise is gone.
